About The Song
“Mr. Lonely” is a song co-written and recorded by American singer Bobby Vinton, backed by Robert Mersey and his Orchestra. It was first released on Vinton’s 1962 album, “Roses Are Red”. Bobby Vinton began writing the song in the late 1950s while serving in the Army.
The lyrics depict a soldier stationed overseas, yearning for companionship and someone to talk to. Epic Records initially refused to release the song, but it gained popularity after being included in a greatest hits LP. It remains one of Vinton’s favorite recordings and has been covered by various artists.
Lyrics
Lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely
I have nobody for my own
I'm so lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely
Wish I had someone to call on the phone
I'm a soldier, a lonely soldier
Away from home through no wish of my own
That's why I'm lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely
I wish that I could go back home
Letters, never a letter
I get no letters in the mail
I've been forgotten, yeah, forgotten
Oh, how I wonder how is it I failed
Now I'm a soldier, a lonely soldier
Away from home through no wish of my own
That's why I'm lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely
I wish that I could go back home
